The mysterious starling (Aplonis mavornata) is classified as ‘Extinct (EX)’ in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. A terrestrial forest bird, the starling is thought to have disappeared some time between 1825 and 1975 presumably as a consequence of Norway rat (Rattus norvegicus) predation.(Source: BirdLife International 2012).
